Hello and welcome back to the Hermit’s Vault for another exciting adventure.
Like my one-page dungeons, The Golden Crown is designed to fit into any fantasy campaign. However, this time it is a complete adventure made for Shadowdark, with a ten-room dungen, monster stats, detailed room descriptions, and multiple random tables for encounters, treasures, and even the effect and appearance of the water in a magical fountain.
While the adventure was made for Shadowdark, it is meant to be easily accessible for other OSR RPGs and more modern games, and adapting it to 5e or other systems should not be too difficult.
My previous adventures have mostly leaned into horror and dark fantasy, so this time I wanted to create a more traditional fantasy romp. Nibs Finkwyn, a goblin herbalist, wants to hire the party to bring back a rare flower from a garden beneath a chapel in the nearby forest. The Golden Crown is easy to recognize by its jet-black petals and golden center. Bring back the flower, and the group will receive 300 gp and a potion from Nibs’ personal collection.
What the PCs find in the chapel, I will leave for you to discover inside the module, so I don’t spoil anything for potential players. As always, I hope you have a lot of fun, and if you decide to run The Golden Crown for your party, don’t forget to tell me all about it.
If you enjoy the content I’m posting here on Substack, don’t forget to subscribe so you get the next adventure directly in your inbox. If it is in your budget and you want to support me, so I can buy more games and random tables, and develop more adventures, please consider upgrading to a paid subscription. If that’s too much commitment, I totally understand. You can also just buy me a coffee.

Going to run solo - any tips on creating a sense of surprise and wonder while navigating the dungeon (as my own GM lol)
Thank u! Can’t wait to read the story and try it out!
